The Alien RNA transcript is an RNA molecule transcribed in vitro with no notable nucleic acid homology. It is used to compare amplification of known quantities of Alien RNA. The threshold cycle (Ct) for amplification of the Alien RNA is measured in reference reactions holding the Alien RNA transcript alone. It can be used to detect inhibitors in either 1-Step (single-tube) or 2-Step (two-tube) QRT-PCR assays utilizing SYBR Green dye for detection.
