Agilent ICP-MS skimmer cone bases are available in either stainless steel or brass. The operating temperature of the skimmer cone tip is controlled by the skimmer base material. The stainless steel base is used for nickel (Ni) skimmer cones. The platinum skimmer cone should only be used with the brass skimmer base. The skimmer base ensures the correct operating temperature of the skimmer cone to prevent damage by overheating or increased drift due to excess matrix deposition at the tip if the cone runs too cool.
